Sharing the same underpinnings as the G80, it brings equally pleasant and magnificent design, all the needed qualities of becoming the ideal flagship for the brand’s SUV lineup. Explore details about the upcoming 2023 Genesis GV80, which stands as a solid competitor to the likes of European luxury manufacturers’ products such as Mercedes-Benz GLE-class and BMW X5.
An Overview of the GV80
The GV80 is a midsize upscale SUV model produced by Genesis, the luxury vehicle division of South Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai. It was shown off as a concept car first with an identical nameplate at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, featuring a hydrogen fuel cell and battery-powered engine.
The SUV was codenamed JX1 internally, in which the 3D blueprint was leaked in late 2019. Nevertheless, it was officially revealed in early 2020 as the result of a joint effort between the Korean, United States, and European design teams of Genesis. The GV80 debuted in the United States as a 2021 model year in November 2020.
The 2023 Genesis GV80 Powertrain and Fuel Economy
Formerly, the midsize luxury SUV is available in either AWD or RWD. However, the RWD version of the GV80 will be discontinued by the 2023 model year, making the vehicle comes standard in the AWD system. This is the only notable change brought by the 2023 Genesis GV80.
The 2023 GV80 offers two engine options: the base engine 2.5L 4-cylinder that generates up to 300 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, and the optional and more powerful 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 engine that puts out 375 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque. Both are paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The 4-cylinder powertrain earns 21/25 mpg city/highway as estimated by the EPA. Meanwhile, the V6-powered variant acquires 18/23 mpg city/highway ratings.
Interior Design and Features
No substantial changes are expected from the 2023 Genesis GV80. To say that the interior of the GV80 is striking wouldn’t be an exaggeration. It sports a neat, sleek, and sophisticated-looking cabin with stretching lines that extend between the dashboard and rear doors. It boasts high-quality and handsome elements such as real wood accents, and leather-covered surfaces, down to the plastic materials located in hidden areas that fit and finish are commendable. It also comes with noise-canceling technology that allows car occupants to enjoy a serene ride without having to deal with wind and road noises.
Apart from the design, the GV80 also offers quite a generous interior space compared to the rivals in the same segment. The option of a third seating row is available, as it does with the majority of its competitors.
Standard interior features of the luxury SUV are including keyless entry, a digital key app remote start, push-button start, an analog instrumental cluster, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Optional features are including a digital instrumental cluster, a panoramic sunroof, upgraded rear sunshades, and tri-zone automatic climate control.
Moving to the infotainment system department, it offers a 14.5” touchscreen display, Bluetooth connection, navigation function, wireless smartphone charger, a 12-speaker audio setup, four USB ports, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Buyers can opt for an optional 21-speaker audio system.
