Powertrain, Battery Pack, and Fuel Economy of the GV60

The GV60 is an SUV model manufactured by Genesis that shares a common groundwork with the Kia EV6 and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Apart from serving as the third model under the brand in the segment, it’s presenting as the first attempt of Genesis into the EV market.  It is said to offer three types of powertrains ultimately in the future, but for now, only single- and dual-motor setups in rear-wheel and all-wheel drive systems are available, mimicking the EV6 and Ioniq 5.

The base engine that powers the rear-wheel-drive single-motor 2023 Genesis GV60 delivers 225 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the dual-motor version generates 314 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque in combination.

Meanwhile, the more powerful option, the Performance, allows the delivery of up to 429 horsepower and 446 pound-feet of torque. driving using ‘Boost’ mode can be accessed by a single press of the button located on the steering wheel elevating the outputs even more to 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

Only one size of the battery is provided, which is a 77.4-kWh unit. On the lesser trim Advanced with a dual-motor setup, it offers up to 248 miles of driving range on a full battery. The higher trim Performance lowers the number slightly at 235 miles. Either way, by using 235 kW charging capacity, it is claimed that the battery can go from 10% (23 miles) to 80% (188 miles) in 18 minutes only.

The Advanced trim in the all-wheel drive system is the more efficient model, earning 103/86 MPGe city/highway ratings from the EPA. Meanwhile, the figures dropped to 97/82 MPGe city/highway for the Performance trim.

Exterior and Interior Design Features

The 2023 Genesis GV60 exterior styling, in general, is not the type that will appeal to everyone without exception. However, it sports a rather cohesive appearance and extra functionality with a clamshell hood, dual-lamp for both headlights and taillights, and premium auto-pop-up door handles.

While the exterior may invite contrasting opinions, the same situation doesn’t seem to apply to the interior which exudes refinement. Being the smallest model in the brand’s SUV lineup, it is indeed not as spacious as its larger siblings the GV70 and GV80, but it offers a distinctive and even more tech-savvy design. It integrates some commendable features and motifs such as the crystal ball-looking flip-over gear shifter. Moreover, it incorporates biometric systems such as facial recognition and fingerprint readers as keyless entry functions.

Each GV60 is equipped with a dual 12.3” display, in which the touchscreen serves as the infotainment touchscreen and the other is for the digital instrumental cluster. The infotainment system, aside from allowing touch control, also allows physical commands using the center console-mounted click wheel. Standard features are including wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibilities and a B&O audio setup.
