The 2023 BMW X2 arrives with minor updates. However, it also brings a new limited edition called the X2 Edition Coldplay.
If you’re looking for a sportier and chicer alternative to the BMW luxury SUV X1 and X3, then you might be interested in the X2. It sits in the same market segment as the Volvo XC40, Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, and Jaguar E-Pace. While the upgrades provided by the 2023 BMW X2 are quite minor, it does offer a new limited-edition version called the X2 Edition Coldplay.
The 2023 BMW X2 Powertrain and Estimated Fuel Economy
The 2023 BMW X2 is powered by a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder powertrain that generates up to 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine is teamed with 8-speed transmission. The base trim sDrive28i comes in front-wheel drive while the xDrive28i utilizes an all-wheel drive system.
Meanwhile, there is also the top-of-the-range trim M35i, which resembles mega hatches rather than the hot hatch qualities found in the standard X2 trims. It is also powered by a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, but the more performance-oriented model bumps up the outputs to 302 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.
Even though the X2 is not exactly the most efficient vehicle fuel-wise, it is still quite economic. The model earns 24 mpg city and 31-32 mpg highway ratings from the EPA. Note that these are the figures for the 2022 model year, and there’s a chance that the upcoming one will acquire slightly higher numbers.
The Limited-Run the X2 Edition Coldplay
The 2023 BMW X2 arrives with a special edition trim touted as the X2 Edition Coldplay and it serves exactly what it sounds like. The most major difference comes in the exterior department, as it boasts a more aggressive-looking façade design with gold-accented trims. The limited-run variant offers a set of exterior paint options, such as Skyscraper Grey, Black Sapphire, Alpine White, San Remo Green, and Storm Bay.
In terms of performance, it also offers a few upgrades too, such as the luxury automaker’s M Sport steering wheel taken from the BMW M Sport package and a 10 mm lower suspension. It is also supported by the M aerodynamic kit which enhances its sportier appearance. Standard variant-exclusive features are including Galvanic Gold-inserted 19” wheels and an optional feature of 20” M aerodynamic wheels.
Moving on to the interior, it receives mesh grille-matched door sills along with a gold badge. The cabin is covered in graphics to align with its outer appearance. Almost every interior element of this crossover is given gold-colored stitches.
The X2 Interior Design, Tech Features, and Driver Assistance
Compared to its flashy exterior, the interior of the 2023 BMW X2 is modest. That being said, it still exudes well-built and nicely wrapped designs. It offers easily reachable controls by the driver and an excellent driving position. The car accommodates up to five people across two seating rows, in which both feature supportive and greatly bolstered seats to boast a comfortable riding experience.
While the legroom is quite spacious, the back row may provide slightly tighter headroom for taller passengers—but it still falls into the acceptable range for the majority of consumers. Genuine and synthetic leather upholstery is offered in a set of color options.
Moving to the interior features, the upcoming X2 provides an 8.8” touchscreen infotainment display as standard, along with a built-in navigation function and integrated iDrive operating system. A controller knob is placed on the center console to give alternatives to the touchscreen commands. It only provides Apple CarPlay compatibility and doesn’t offer Android Auto integration features as well. A 7-speaker sound system is available as standard, but it can be upgraded to the premium Harman Kardon audio setup.
A head-up display feature is also available by opting for the Premium package, which offers a larger 10.3” screen as well. Some individual optional features are a wireless hotspot and a wireless smartphone charger pad.
Some driver-assistance features that come as standard in the upcoming X2 are a rearview camera, lane departure warning, forward collision alert, autonomous emergency braking, parking sensors, and speed limit recognition. On the other hand, the optional driver-assistance features list includes park assistance, a head-up display, and adaptive cruise control.
