According to a South Korean-based news source, an all-new electric full-size SUV dubbed the GV90 will be launched next year. The vehicle will compete against the upcoming electrified Range Rover and Mercedes-Benz EQS. By now, it is estimated that the prototype of the model is on the work. Explore more details about the 2024 Genesis GV90 here.
What is the Genesis GV90?
SUVs gradually take the domination of the market, so it shouldn’t come as surprise when the majority of automobile manufacturers shift their investment in this rapidly growing segment. As for Genesis, it steps into the segment with the GV80, which currently sits as the flagship SUV of the brand. However, rumors said that a larger SUV will take the position, namely the GV90.
The GV90 is going to be the second dedicated EV from the brand, right after the GV60. It is expected to ride on the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
The SUV is also said to share common parts with electric SUVs under Hyundai and Kia development, most probably to optimize R&D efficiency which includes cost and period of development. Recently, both companies revealed brand-new large SUVs concepts, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, called EV9 and Seven respectively.
Possible Body Style and Dimensions
Details of the 2024 Genesis GV90 haven’t been dropped yet. However, looking at the EV9 and Seven concept cars, some conclusions can be drawn. After all, the GV90 will share the same platform, which is the largest variant of the E-GMP.
This provides some insights into the upcoming car. For instance, it sure will bring a huge wheelbase. The axle distance is estimated to extend by 126”, according to the Seven concepts. It means, that even the passengers in the most back-row seats will have a lot of legroom. As it’s a dedicated EV as well, the platform will serve an entirely flat floor.
A Korean-based artist on YouTube, Gotcha Cars, has successfully produced a rendered illustration of the potential GV90 from the given teaser. By elevating the brightness level, a far bigger vehicle compared to the GV60 with a different shape and luxury outer appearance can be seen. The GV60 has somewhat of a fastback-like body style given its angled roofline. However, the full-size GV90 appears to have a boxier frame that most likely brings more generous cabin and cargo capacities.
Potential Capacity and Performance
The 2024 Genesis GV90 is expected to have a similar driving range number as its more economical siblings at 300 miles per full charging session. The 350-kW charging capacity means it only needs 20 minutes of charging time to go from 10% to 80% battery capacity.
It only makes sense that the upcoming GV90 is offered with an AWD system and dual motor setup, considering the size. Still, Hyundai seems to tend to save the best for last, so it is expected that Genesis’ future largest SUV will arrive after its Kia and Hyundai counterparts have been released.
The 2024 Genesis GV90 will Enter the Scarcely Filled Segment
In the future, electric crossovers and SUVs are becoming more common. However, the segment of full-size electric SUVs somewhat stays limited when it comes to the available options. Releasing the GV90 either as a 2023 or 2024 model year will place Genesis ahead of the competition with other luxury brands.
As of current, the only rival the 2024 Genesis GV90 has is the Rivian R1S. There’s the Model X from Tesla, but some do not consider it a full-size SUV. Other nameplates such as Audi e-Tron and BMW iX may classify, but it’s worth noting that neither provide a third seating row.
