Even though the sales number of the XT5 shows that the model is fine as it is, a lot argue that the crossover SUV is in certain needs upgrades. The news of the next-gen XT5 has been circulating around for a couple of years now, and it is mostly going to arrive in the form of the 2024 Cadillac XT5. Interested? Read more details about it in the following.
An Overview of the Cadillac XT5
The compact luxury crossover SUV XT5 debuted in the 2017 model year when it replaced the supposedly second-generation Cadillac SRX. This means the nameplate is not older than several years old even though the history of its predecessor spans more than two decades. Its launch was a part of the former Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen giving alphanumeric naming structure throughout the brand’s lineup to mimic the European rivals’ naming formatting.
The XT5 debut marks the first model of Cadillac to use the new platform that since then has been adjusted to suit the XT4 and XT6, both as the smaller and larger siblings of the model. The platform is also used by a few Buick and Chevy models.
As expected of a Cadillac, the XT5 offers an overall generous spaced, noiseless cabin, and top-quality materials inside. Back then, its CUE-powered infotainment system was definitely not the greatest but it has been upgraded in the last several years.
The XT5 received a mid-generational refresh for its 2020 model year that makes the once top-selling SUV model even more likable. This refresh added a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder powertrain to the lineup as the entry-level engine that is still used now.
Delayed New Generation of the Cadillac XT5
Originally, it was said that an all-new second-generation XT5 will be launched by the release of the 2023 model year. That being said, the plan looks to be scrapped and moved to the 2024 Cadillac XT5.
Instead, the 2023 XT5 offers only minor changes such as the elimination of three exterior paint options and the addition of another three options as a replacement. It also provides the optional ventilated and heated seats again since the features were restrained in March.
New Platform and Architecture
According to the floating rumors and predictions regarding the 2024 Cadillac XT5, the model will sit on the primary, but not fully, the same platform as the most recent model. Currently, the 5-passenger SUV used GM’s C1 platform, while the upcoming XT5 generation is said to be going to use the C1-2 platform. The consensus seems to agree that the C1-2 platform suit the new XT5 generation perfectly because it won’t differ too much from the current one, anyway.
Despite the minor change on the platform, there’s no doubt that plenty of other elements of this model will be upgraded, including the interior. The XT5 will most likely receive overhauled touch points. It also possibly moves to Global B architecture that can be found first in the Cadillac CT4 and CT4 before being available on the flagship SUV Escalade.
Amongst the many benefits provided by the Global B architecture, one of the most prominent ones is how it enables SuperCruise and other types of self-driving driver assistance system accommodations. The current XT5 cannot carry the SuperCruise feature as it still rides on the C1 platform and Global A architecture.
Production Place of the 2024 Cadillac XT5
The 2024 Cadillac XT5 is expected to be built in the same GM’s Spring Hill, Tennessee manufacturing plant. However, there are recent rumors about the upcoming generation production to be carried in China to provide room for the Lyriq EV production in the US.
