2024 BMW i5 Sedan Redesign & Interior – Following the release of all-electric variants of the 3 Series and 7 Series in 2022, BMW is now putting the final touches on an emission-free variant of the 5 Series. The Mercedes EQE rival is back with an expanded picture gallery after having its name, which will be the i5, officially announced and will be followed by the introduction of a wagon version in 2024. Camouflaged prototypes were the focus of nearly one hundred images and a video that lasted for four minutes. Some of the prototypes already had the final headlights and taillights installed.
The sole statement made by BMW on the i5’s technological characteristics is that it will feature an enhanced version of the fifth-generation eDrive. BMW does not go into more detail regarding these parameters. The Munich-based company asserts that the developed hardware “displays a high level of maturity,” but it won’t be a specialized electric vehicle platform since it won’t be available until 2025, which is when the Neue Klasse will be released. Instead, the first-ever iteration of the i5 will make use of the CLAR platform, which will also be used by the other two electric sedans that we discussed previously, in addition to the i4 liftback.
Since February 2022, when the i5 Sedan took its first voyage from Munich to the test site in Arjeplog, BMW has been conducting testing of the vehicle outside on public roads. Before being subjected to further testing throughout the year, it had to travel around 1,850 miles (3,000 kilometers) to northern Sweden. Both in and around Munich and in the area surrounding the Dingolfing facility, prototypes were tested and appraised. The BMW i5 underwent yet another round of testing in severe winter conditions about a month ago near the Arctic Circle.
A window sticker found on a prototype in September 2022 suggests that the M Performance version would most likely be dubbed the i5 M60. The German luxury brand has previously stated that there will be an M Performance version of the vehicle. On the same sheet of paper, there was also the word “Allrad,” which meant an all-wheel drive system that was powered by two electric motors, one of which was located in the front and the other in the back. The i5 M60 will be the next model after the i4 M50, which is currently on the market, and the iX M60, which will be released after the i7 M70.
We think that BMW plans to offer a plug-in hybrid version of the M560e in addition to the i5 M60 as an M Performance model for the eighth generation of the 5 Series. This model will have a straight-six engine and will be designated as the M560e. It is speculated that it will function as an indirect replacement for the M550i, given that only the M5 will continue to provide a V8 engine option.
There will be significant improvements on the inside, despite the fact that the exterior will (thank goodness) be more evolutionary than revolutionary (see 7 Series / i7). The new 5 Series will be the first BMW to get the iDrive 8.5, which will include two displays integrated inside a single piece of curved glass above the dashboard. This innovation will make the new 5 Series the industry leader in its segment. You should expect to see fewer traditional controls given that the touchscreen will provide access to the majority of the features. Yes, this will also entail regulating the climate.
The G60 5 Series Sedan and the 2024 BMW i5 Sedan will be the first models available, followed soon afterward by the G61 Touring variants. It is expected that the G90 M5 Sedan will be introduced to the top of the range around the year 2025 when it will be joined by the G99 M5 Touring.
You may anticipate the 2024 BMW i5 to come standard with at least the same number of active safety measures as its more compact sibling, the i4. We believe that BMW will install automated emergency braking, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring, a lane-keeping system, traffic sign recognition, automatic high beams, and parking sensors. In addition, we expect that BMW will equip its vehicles with traffic sign recognition. The Driver Assistance Professional package, which includes adaptive cruise control, a front cross-traffic monitoring system, and a more sophisticated lane-keeping system, will most likely be made available by BMW. The Parking Assistance package, which includes a camera that captures a 360-degree view as well as more sophisticated parking sensors, is likely going to be made available for purchase with the 2024 BMW i5.
The usage of BMW’s curved display, which integrates a completely digital instrument cluster and an infotainment screen into a single piece of glass and is scheduled to debut in the 2024 model year of the i5, has been confirmed by the automaker. These displays will work with the BMW Operating System 8.5 when they are installed. You may anticipate the 2024 BMW i5 to be equipped with wireless versions of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additionally, we expect to be able to use wireless charging if and when it becomes available.
