Stellaris has announced that the 2022 Chrysler Voyager will only be available as a fleet-only LX model. So, how the upcoming 2023 Chrysler Voyager’s future seems like?
The Voyager is a nameplate with an extensive history for those who are interested in minivans. Restored in 2020 as the more budget-friendly counterpart of the Pacifica, the 7-passenger minivan makes a straightforward hauler for families. How is the future 2023 Chrysler Voyager going to possibly roll out after it was announced as a fleet-only model starting from the 2022 model year?
An Overview of the Voyager
The Chrysler Voyager is a minivan model manufactured by Chrysler, one of the Stellantis’ divisions brands. Currently, it sits as the entry-level model of the company, under the Pacifica. The Voyager was introduced as the replacement for the Dodge Grand Caravan.
The nameplate actually was unveiled for the first time in 1988 in Europe. In the United States, it served as the Dodge Caravan’s rebadged variant. It developed initially along with the Caravan, the Chrysler Town and Country, and the Plymouth Voyager.
However, the nameplate then served as the replacement of the Plymouth Voyager’s short-wheelbase version in the U.S, following the Plymouth division’s withdrawal in 2001. The nameplate was resurrected after the Dodge Grand Caravan discontinuation and came as the new 2021 model year.
In Canada, the Voyager serves as the Grand Caravan’s rebadged version while in Europe, it carries on as the Lancia Voyager’s rebadged variant. It was available with varying powertrains, including diesel, in Europe, along with manual transmission and manual emergency brake. The production is now exclusively reserved in Ontario, Canada.
Possible Powertrain and Interior of the 2023 Chrysler Voyager
At this point, nothing has been revealed yet about the 2023 Chrysler Voyager. However, it is expected to remain to share the same machine as the Pacifica and offers the same 3.6 V6 powertrains combined with a 9-speed automatic transmission that produces up to 287 horsepower. Available in a front-wheel drive system, it earns 19/28 mpg city/highway ratings from the EPA.
Inside, the upcoming Voyager is predicted to stay generous with the space. The legroom measures 41.1” in the front, 39” in the middle, and 36.5” in the back, meaning it’s quite roomy even though not as spacious as the Honda Odyssey for the rear seating row. The cargo area measurement is another strength of the Voyager, by providing 32.3 cu-ft space. It gives an 87.5 cu-ft area when the back seating row is folded and a whopping 140.5 cu-ft when all passenger seating rows are folded.
The interior design of the Voyager also follows the Pacifica, even though it admittedly offers less comfort. It is missing Pacifica’s leather upholstery, rear-seat entertainment option, and automatic climate control. However, it does have the Stow ‘n Go feature—one of the most talked about features of the Pacifica.
The Voyager offers a 3.5” digital instrument cluster and a 7” touchscreen display for the infotainment system. It also provides smartphone integration compatibility options (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto), active noise cancellation technology, a 6-speaker sound setup, a built-in voice command capability, and Bluetooth connection as standard features. Optional features available are including a bigger 10.1” infotainment display, an integrated navigation system, and a SiriusXM radio.
Anticipated Details to be Dropped
The 2023 Chrysler Voyager continues to be a fleet-only model. This fact, combined with the Dodge Grand Caravan discontinuation, means fewer entry-level minivan options in the market. However, it looks like the minivan market overall still carries a value with the Chrysler Pacifica selling over 90,000 units annually followed by the Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey.
That being said, there are rumors that the 2020 Voyager resurrection is only short-lived. If the rumors are true, then it’s certainly an unfortunate situation for the minivan enthusiasts out there. Still, there’s always the Pacifica available even though it means churning out more dollars to get one.
As mentioned above, the details about the 2023 Chrysler Voyager haven’t been dropped yet. Expect more information to be announced soon on the official website of the company.
