Retained Powertrain of the 2023 BMW M8
The BMW M8 is the high-performing variant of the 8-Series from the manufacturer and it is distributed under the MotorSports sub-division. Originally, the 8-Series was available between 1990 and 1999 and a prototype of the M8 was made and planned to enter production, but then it never happened. Fast forward to two decades later, finally the production version of M8 was materialized in 2019 and delivered started in 2020.
In 2021, the coupe and convertible versions of the M8 were temporarily halted and it made a return in 2020. The new 2023 BMW M8 was introduced at the prestigious Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance car show in 2022, along with a display of its initial prototype that comes from the early 1990s.
Similar to other 8-Series variants, the M8 comes in three body styles: Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe. The Gran Coupe is a bigger version of the 2-door coupe that offers a 4-door model.
The upcoming M8 will be powered by the same powertrain as last year, a 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine that generates up to 617 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed auto transmission and is available as standard in the xDrive (AWD) system.
Upgraded Designs and Interior Features
Each of the 2023 BMW M8 will offer 20” M-exclusive light-alloy 5-spoke wheels. New Shadowline accents are given as standard in their headlights. Moreover, five new exterior paint color options are also offered including Daytona Beach Blue.
As 2023 marks the half-century anniversary of the sub-division Motorsport, an exclusive “M 50 Years” emblem on the hood is offered as optional for the upcoming model year to celebrate the milestone.
In terms of the interior, the M8 cabin offers a lot of high-end features such as leather upholstery and M-specific stitching design. New Alcantara and Merino upholstery come standard in M Sport seats and are available as optional in M Carbon seats.
The M Carbon seats also offer further optional features such as electric adjustable and heated seats. They boast lighter weights and feature carbon fiber trims that emphasize the racing visual aspect of the vehicle.
The 2023 BMW M8 is expected to retain the current infotainment feature of a 12.3” touchscreen display supported by the most recent version of the BMW iDrive UI system, which used to be known for its complexity but has been upgraded to be more user-friendly. Several convenient features such as smartphone integration options (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and navigation maps function are also available.
Aside from these mentioned ones, the model also offers some standard features such as Harman Kardon audio setup, wireless charger, a head-up display, and various M-exclusive driving models such as Sport, Road, and Track modes. Moreover, the upcoming M8 provides push-button starts, a heated steering wheel, a remote start, and a heated armrest as well.
In terms of the standard driver assistant package, the M8 hands quite a satisfying range. The standard features are including automatic high beams, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive brake lights, and lane departure warning.
Meanwhile, some optional features in this area are including a surround-view parking camera, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, hands-free park assist, lane following for highway driving, and many more that you can get for extra costs.
Release Date and Price Estimation
The production of the M8 is said to begin in March at the Dingolfing, Germany factory plant, which is also the location of several variants under the luxury automobile manufacturer. No words are heard yet about when the sale date is going to begin, but it’s probably closer to the third quarter of 2022. Expect a new announcement to be dropped soon.
Both the coupe and Gran Coupe versions of the 2023 BMW M8 costs start at 130,000. Meanwhile, the convertible variant starts at slightly over $139,000.
