The XT6 hasn’t been given any huge upgrades since its debut in 2019. Will a mid-cycle refresh for this model comes with the 2024 Cadillac XT6?
The XT6 is the most recent addition to the Cadillac lineup, as it was just released for the 2020 model year for the first time. However, it is definitely not the first 3-row SUV model under the brand. For the 2024 model year, the vehicle is going to enter its fifth production year of the current generation. The latest XT6 may represent what the luxury brand is today, but hopefully not what it will be in the future, due to its admittedly lackluster performance and offerings compared to its direct competitors such as the Volvo XC90 and Lincoln Aviator. Regardless, let’s see how the 2024 Cadillac XT6 is most likely to roll out later.
An Insight into the Cadillac XT6
The XT6 (Crossover Touring 6) is a mid-sized upscale crossover SUV with a 3-row seating configuration produced by Cadillac which operates under General Motors. Historically, it is the third model of crossover SUV manufactured under the brand’s lineup and sits at the top of the XT series, size-wise, sandwiched between the Cadillac XT5 and the large SUV Escalade.
The XT6 uses the same wheelbase as the XT5, GMC Acadia, and the Chevy Blazer for the Chinese market, even though it is technically the more premium counterpart of the Buick Enclave and Chevy Traverse.
The vehicle was first revealed at the 2019 North American International Auto Show and made available a few months later as a 2020 model year. In the following year, it was made available in Russia and Japan.
Potential Powertrain, Exterior, and Interior Offerings
Even though there are currently rumors about the mid-size luxury SUV production ending in 2025, the XT6 is actually expected to arrive for the 2023 model year with a mid-cycle refresh. Supposedly, the 2024 Cadillac XT6 only brings minor changes.
That being said, the 2023 XT6 is reported to roll out with very minimal adjustments. Three exterior color paint options from the previous model year are eliminated and being replaced by other new three exterior colors instead, as cited from GM Authority.
What makes the chance of the 2023 model year brings seems low to none, is how the Cadillac’s officials appear to maintain quietness until now. Of course, the possibility of other minor changes along with the previously mentioned replaced exterior color options is not completely removed yet. However, this indicates one thing perhaps worth taking note of: if the refreshed 2023 XT6 is delayed, it can be offered by the 2024 model year.
Regardless, the 2024 Cadillac XT6 potentially retains the current two available powertrain options: the base 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces up to 235 HP and 258 lb-ft of torque, and the more-powerful 3.6L naturally-aspirated V6 engine that generates 310 HP and 271 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with a standard 9-speed automatic transmission with the option of getting the FWD or AWD version. It is also expected that the upcoming XT6 will still ride on the C1 platform.
The XT6 cabin will retain the options between 7- or 8-seat arrangements—with either the driver’s chairs coming in pairs or the second-row coming with a 3-seat layout. The third row of this model always comes in a 3-seat format. In terms of quality, the interior of this vehicle doesn’t seem to surpass the BMW5 or Audi Q7. Moreover, the size of its cargo area feels rather limited as well.
Possible Production Timing of the 2024 Cadillac XT6
If the production schedule is 2024 Cadillac XT6 to follow the 2023 model year, then it’s predicted to enter production by June 2023. It is expected to still be assembled at General Motor’s Spring Hill, Tennessee manufacturing plant along with the Shanghai plan under SAIC-GM.
