Wondering whether a 2024 Buick Avista will eventually arrive? Discover below whether this appealing concept car from Buick will make it into the production phase.
These days, you only see Buick offers crossover SUVs. Stepping to a few years back, it provided some sedans as well. However, it is an undeniable fact that this subdivision brand under General Motors was known for its performance cars in the past. If you’d like to take a peek at what a modern performance vehicle from Buick might look like, the Avista concept car that’s claimed to offer up to 400 HP and RWD system could be the answer.
It is the exact concept car that made a buzz when it was revealed at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. Considering that a production version is nowhere to be seen until today, how big of a chance is that a 2024 Buick Avista will arrive? Find out the answer below.
A Brief Insight into the Buick Avista
The Avista is a given nameplate for a two-plus-two concept car introduced by Buick at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. It loosely leans design language from the precedent Buick Avenir concept—which was praised to be the most aggressive, sharpest-looking design by Buick since it unveiled the modernized Riviera concept at Shanghai Auto Show in 2013. The Avista itself was displayed in a gorgeous blue exterior paint and a powertrain of a 400 HP twin-turbocharged V6 engine.
The said engine may sound familiar as the Cadillac CT6 is powered by a 400 HP 3L twin-turbocharged V6 engine. Moreover, it also arrives with an RWD system, an 8-speed transmission, start-stop technology, and magnetic ride control. The body type concept that sits on the 110.7” wheelbase and uses the Alpha platform is shared with the 6th gen Chevy Camaro. All in all, it is billed as a genuine driver-focused car by the manufacturer.
The Avista Design
The outer design of the Avista is adorned by a fresh-then grille design that wears a horizontal stake piercing across the brand’s logo. The grille design, along with the angled roof, of this 2-door vehicle model, is inspired by the 4-door Avenir concept car. It also carries the same 20” aluminum wheels, aluminum accent for the interior, exposed carbon-fiber trim, and padded door handles.
This design earned the automaker the EyesOn Design award in 2016—which was also acquired by Avenir in the prior year. The Detroit News also praised it as the Best Future Concept car.
According to the automaker, this concept car shows the company’s possible direction in so many aspects including interior, infotainment, and technologies in the future.
How Possible for a 2024 Buick Avista to Arrive?
If you are eager to anticipate the 2024 Buick Avista arrival, prepare to be disappointed because the concept was never intended to enter the production phase. The company’s officials claimed that this decision is not due to incapability to materialize the concept, but due to an essential business principle: just because a company has the capacity to do something, it doesn’t necessarily mean that it should.
According to an interview with the head of Buick and General Motors, the market for sedan vehicles in the U.S. is shrinking, and it couldn’t be truer. This means producing Avista won’t allow for initial investment recovery in terms of development, manufacturing, and promotion.
A case where a 2024 Buick Avista does come true might be viable in the older days of the car industry when automakers were willing to produce cars without significant research regarding the market. However, cars are the product that requires high cost in every step of production and this is possibly the primary reason why Buick declined to manifest the concept.
Producing a 2024 Buick Avista would take General Motors and Buick at risk of business. After all, GM has eliminated some of its brands that weren’t deemed profitable anymore. That’s why only vehicles that can guarantee sound sales numbers are put out on the market these days.
