An Overview of the Chevrolet Trailblazer
The Chevrolet Trailblazer joined General Motors’ wide range of SUVs in the subcompact segment in 2020. Size-wise, it is sandwiched between Chevrolet Trax as a compact SUV and the Chevrolet Blazer as a mid-size SUV. A significant part of the Trailblazer’s components is shared with small SUV Buick Encore GX, such as the range of powertrain options and drivetrain.
The nameplate was already used by the Chevy brand for a North America marketed SUV from 2001 – 2008, before the 2009 Chevy Traverse came as its replacement. This time around, the all-new Trailblazer features a sportier appearance but offers less performance-oriented capabilities compared to the earlier version.
The upcoming 2023 Chevy Trailblazer will be a new model year of the generation released during the 18th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition in 2019. Back then, it was introduced along with the Chevy Tracker which aims for a different type of market. The Trailblazer is developed by GM Korea and primarily constructed in Incheon, South Korea, even though some parts, especially the ones for the Chinese market, are constructed in Shanghai, China.
On its current-gen debut year, the Trailblazer is offered in five different trim grades: L, LS, LT, ACTIV, and RS, even though the entry trim level L was shaved from the lineup only one model year later. LS and LT trims represent the main variants while the ACTIV offers a tougher exterior design and the RS provides a more flashy exterior design. Both the ACTIV and RS trim levels are equipped with a color-contrasting roof.
The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer came with minor changes. Similarly, the 2023 model year is also expected to be a carryover from the previous one.
Unaltered Two Powertrain Options and Designs
The engine range offered by the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer is predicted to remain the same. There is a 137 HP 1.2L 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline motor that powers the FWD version of the LS and LT trims. Another option is the 155 HP 1.3L 3-cylinder turbocharged gasoline motor in the AWD version of the LS and LT trims, which is also presented in ACTIV and RS variants as a standard feature.
The 1.2L engine is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). On the other hand, the AWD 1.3L engine is paired with 9-speed automatic transmission. Both of them don’t exactly provide the most powerful chassis and performed harshly on rougher tracks, but they manage curves well enough.
Considering that its exterior design is quite spruce, the interior design comes as rather modest. However, aside from spaciousness often deemed as the main selling point of this model, the cabin is functional enough and loaded with abundant practical features in the ACTIV and RS trims. The rear seat offers enough room for two adults to feel comfortable enough. Black plastic seems to be a frequently repeated material for the majority of interiors, but chrome decoration and colored cut pieces give a more lavish appearance on higher-end variants. These are expected to make comeback in the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer.
Moreover, the current model year has already brought the most recent infotainment system feature set from Chevrolet that lets users connect two devices via Bluetooth simultaneously. A 7” touchscreen display is offered as standard, but you can bump up the size by opting for the optional and slightly bigger 8” unit. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, and a 6-speaker audio setup are available, with the stereo system can be upgraded into a premium 7-speaker one.
Price Estimations for Different Trims
In general, the Chevrolet Trailblazer makes a decently good subcompact SUV model with spacious room, eye-pleasing design, and comprehensive features. It also offers a comfortable and supportive seat, not to mention user-friendly tech components.
The 2023 Chevy Trailblazer as a carryover model is expected to sit at a close price range to the current model year. The base trim levels start extremely near to $23,000 while the more upscale grades ACTIV and RS start around $27,000.
