2024 Jeep Wagoneer EV: Is the Wagoneer Going Electric? – Jeep revealed its first electric vehicle as part of the 4xe Day celebrations, in September 2022. Recon, Jeep’s first electric vehicle, will look like a “Wrangler-inspired” boxy off-roader. Jeep’s Wagoneer premium sub-brand, however, is going a completely different route with its first electric vehicle. The Wagoneer, which won’t be a luxury box, will instead have a more rounded design.
This new Wagoneer is one of Stellantis’ first vehicles that use the STLA Large platform, which will also be used to build electric Dodge muscle cars as well as an electric Chrysler cross-over. The platform will have a range estimated at 400 miles.
Ralph Gilles is the Stellantis Chief Design Officer for Chrysler, Dodge Jeep Ram Maserati, and Fiat Latin America. The Wagoneer S production model, which belongs to the D-segment, or midsize, SUV segment, has “very little similarity” with its full-size Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer, big brother vehicles. The full-size Wagoneers have massive three-row SUVs, but the S has a sleek, two-row vehicle with a roofline that stretches beneath the rear wings.
We are currently working to create an iconic signature light. The rest of it is all about presence, cleanliness, and design. My goal is to make the Wagoneer look clean and premium. Gilles told MotorTrend that he wanted something timeless and easy to look at. The interior of the new model is just as beautiful as its big brother.
Review
Jeep Recon is a ruggeder SUV and the other electric Jeep that’s in development from STLA Large. Both are in the same development phase and target different customer bases. Gilles explains that both products complement existing portfolios. Both of the new Jeeps that will soon be revealed to the public won’t vary much from concepts. Dealers who saw a preview in March gave them a thumbs-up.
We also hope to find out next month when reservations will be opened for Wagoneer and Recon. The Wagoneer and Recon will both be on sale next year. One in the first quarter, and the other in the second. Soon we will know the exact order in which they arrive. Officials have yet to announce where the two vehicles will be constructed.
Recon’s boxier design is different from the Wrangler which, in time, will be available as an all-electric car. The Recon is equipped with STLA Large, which has a more urban design but still offers a lot of capability. An electric Wrangler would use STLA Frame to maintain its position as the king and icon of the mountains.
Meunier and Gilles won’t give a time frame for an electric-only Wrangler. But it is not too far away. Jeep Magneto concept cars teased a possible manual transmission for an electric Wrangler. Will this be the case? Meunier says to stay tuned. He says the vehicle will be enjoyable to drive, but isn’t ready to divulge details just yet. He hinted at the possibility of more Magneto concept cars, and that they could be a hint to a future Wrangler EV.
Stellantis’ investment in the 4xe plug-in hybrid is one reason why there should be no hurry. Meunier believes that the number of 4xe Wranglers sold in the U.S. will surpass 50% in the second half. There is a really good reception for that technology.
Meunier reports that the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee line-up now has a 4xe engine in addition to the V-6 and V-8. This is why it is not necessary to include the Hurricane engine. It is a powerful plug-in, with a ton of torque and very efficient fuel consumption, when charged.
Next up, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer & Wagoneer will get the hybrid treatment next year. They’ll be able to travel 500 miles with a combination of electric and gas motors. Meunier believes that the electrified versions will be popular in North America and provide a bridge toward battery-electric models in the future.
Design
The design team used the words striking and sexy to describe the exterior of the Wagoneer S 2024. We’re inclined to agree with them that this is a stunning vehicle. The seven-element front grille is now more elegant and understated than the bulkier models that were gas-fed. It is identified by clear lettering, while sleek LED headlamps running across the width of the hood, along with an illuminated grille slot, give the car a futuristic appearance.
The roofline is shaped like a coupe at the back, and the roof drops down to the rear under a wing-like design supported by D-pillars. The rear taillight cluster has a similar streamlined design to the front light strip. Jeep claims that the Wagoneer S represents the culmination of design evolution. A clear focus has been placed on aerodynamics, as well as a premium appearance.
The official color palette for the Jeep Wagoneer S is not yet available, but the images in press materials show it in silver, dark purple, and blue.
Engine
While we don’t know if it will be a permanent name, the ‘S” in the title also stands for speed. It’s an appropriate way to describe the SUV. The official specifications for the engine are still awaited, but it is expected to have 600 horsepower and can sprint from 0-60 in just 3.5 seconds. This performance will be comparable to the old, V8 supercharged Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. This is likely to be a dual motor setup that will give the Wagoneer S such high output numbers. However, other models with lower power levels could also join the lineup. The twin-motor drivetrain also gives the Wagoneer S, or whatever the name of the production electric Wagoneer is in the future, electric all-wheel-drive capabilities.
Jeeps are known for their capability. While the Jeep Wagoneer S isn’t Rubicon Trail Rated it can still handle light off-roading.
The 2024 Jeep Wagoneer EV, with an estimated range of 400 miles on a single charge will allow it to achieve its goal of comfortable long-distance travel and comfortable cruising. If you use the correct charging system, we expect to see around 200 miles added in 10 minutes. The STLA Large Architecture that is used to underpin the Wagoneer s has been adopted.
Release Date and Price
Although the release date of the Jeep Wagoneer S is not confirmed, production will begin in 2024. Reservations open early in 2023.
Jeep is hesitant to reveal the pricing of its 2024 Wagoneer S. However, competitors’ prices start above $60,000. The Jeep MSRP will be higher, as it represents a luxury vehicle. However, buyers may be eligible for federal tax credit, which helps to reduce the price.
