The 2023 Cadillac XT5 will enter the seventh production year of the first generation. See what minor changes it will carry in terms of design and features.
As the successor of the brand’s best-selling SUV the SRX, it isn’t entirely surprising that the XT5 has achieved the title once as well, in 2017. Even now, the compact luxury crossover SUV model sits at the second position of the top-selling models under Cadillac, only behind the flagship car Escalade. That being said, the nameplate redesign that’s supposed to happen for the 2023 Cadillac XT5 model year, unfortunately, seems to be delayed. Read the minor changes that it receives instead below.
The XT5 Engine and Fuel Efficiency Ratings
The XT5 was first revealed in late 2015, both at the Los Angeles Auto Show and Dubai Motor Show. When it was finally released in 2016, it serves as the replacement for the Cadillac SRX. The launch marks the first model under the XT (Crossover Touring) series and the second model was given the new brand’s alphanumeric naming structure.
There are two types of powertrains offered by the XT5: the base engine 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder that generates up to 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque and a 3.6L V6 engine that makes 310 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque. The latter comes standard for the Sport variant and optional for the Premium Luxury model. Either way, both are paired with a 9-speed transmission and are provided in front-wheel or all-wheel drive systems.
Based on the EPA estimations, the front-wheel drive XT5 supported by the base powertrain earns 22/19 mpg city/highway fuel economy ratings. Meanwhile, the V6 engine-powered version achieves 26/19 mpg city/highway ratings.
Minor Changes of the 2023 Cadillac XT5
The 2023 Cadillac XT5 is expected to bring only minor changes. Amongst this handful of adjustments are the few eliminated exterior color paint options: Infrared Tintcoat (GSK), Dark Moon Blue Metallic (GLU), and Satin Still Metallic (G9K).
These axed-out colors will be replaced by a set of fresh ones, such as Argent Silver Metallic (GXD), Opulent Blue Metallic (GTR), and Radiant Red Tintcoat (GNT). The new colors are available for an extra cost, except for the Argent Silver Metallic.
Interior-wise, the upcoming XT5 will provide again the options to get ventilated and heated seats. These functions were priorly halted since the beginning of the year. Moreover, the previously optional 14-speaker Bose sound setup will become standard in Sport and Premium Luxury Trims. Both of these trim grades will also offer a navigation system as one of their standard features starting from the 2023 model year.
A Scrapped Plan of New Generation Release and the XT5 Production Date
Originally, the 2023 Cadillac XT5 is supposed to be launched as an all-new first-year production of the nameplate’s second generation. That being said, it seems like the generational shift of the XT5 is moved to the following model year instead. Currently, the model is still in its first generation and received a mid-cycle refresh once in 2020.
In conclusion, the 2023 XT5 will arrive without any dramatic changes, which are very needed. To be fair, the mid-size SUV model feels slightly outdated compared to its rivals in the same class. The Lexus RX, for example, recently went through a major overhaul. The Lincoln Aviator as a more domestic rival also received interior and exterior redesign as per recent. Hopefully, the plan won’t have to be put off again and the 2024 XT5 will arrive as an all-new car model.
All in all, the production for the 2023 Cadillac XT5 is said to begin in the midst-2022. It will continue to be assembled at General Motor’s Tennessee Spring Hill plant which is also the location of the Cadillac XT6, Cadillac Lyriq EV, and GMC Acadia productions.
