2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup: Price, Interior & Range – We never imagined we’d see a brand-new Hummer on American roads again, but the off-road brand was reincarnated as an electric pickup truck named the GMC Hummer EV last year. This vehicle is something we never thought we’d see again. This version is not a weak model that is focused on economics. It can reach 60 miles per hour in 3.3 seconds because of its electric motor that generates 1000 horsepower, and it can push its way through almost any terrain using raw force.
With its innovative Crab driving mode, the Hummer EV can even be driven in a sideways direction. This is made possible by the vehicle’s rear-wheel steering system, which makes it much simpler for the driver to navigate the vehicle past obstacles such as stones or hatchbacks. The Hummer EV is more of a toy than a tool, in contrast to its competitors, such as the Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T, which provide more classic pickup truck functionality. The next vehicle to go on sale will be an electric SUV version of the Hummer, and in the near future, more practical electric pickups will be introduced by GMC and its sister company Chevrolet.
Design
For its second year on the market, the GMC Hummer EV SUT pickup truck adds a plethora of new exterior colors, including Afterburner Tintcoat, Meteorite Metallic, Void Black, Tide Metallic, and Deep Aurora Metallic. The reason for this is that the previous year, GMC only offered the Edition 1 model, and it was only available in the color Interstellar White. Now that the Hummer EV1X Edition 1 has run its course, the Hummer EV3X takes its place as the top trim. However, rather than arriving fully equipped, the Hummer EV3X may be optioned with or without detachable roof panels and many of the usual off-roading equipment that was included with the Edition 1 model.
Even though it’s the most costly model, we’d still suggest the EV3X as it features a lot of the nicest stuff provided on the Hummer EV, like an adjustable air suspension, GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system, and a big 13.4-inch LCD display. The EV2 won’t be available for purchase until 2024, although the EV2X is already on the market with its cheaper two-motor powertrain.
Interior
The Hummer EV is a crew cab pickup truck with a five-foot-long bed, despite the fact that traditional Hummers were mostly sport utility vehicles (SUVs). When taking into account the cost of the Hummer and the fact that its cabin is smaller than that of the GMC Sierra crew cab pickup truck, the quality of the inside materials may be improved. However, the cabin may be exposed to the outdoors by means of an optional detachable roof, which reintroduces a form that is reminiscent of a T-top that was common in GM sports cars and muscle cars in the 1970s and 1980s.
When in place, the translucent panels are identical to a standard panoramic glass sunroof but pulling them off and stowing them in the Hummer EV’s front trunk gives the truck a convertible atmosphere similar to that of the Jeep Gladiator. Inside, many moon-inspired touches—such as a moon-boot imprint on the dead pedal and speaker grilles that portray the Sea of Tranquility—serve as not-so-subtle reminders of GM’s link to NASA astronauts and the electrically driven Apollo 15 lunar rover that the firm helped develop.
A big 13.4-inch display serves as the infotainment screen, and there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel as well. GMC has commissioned Epic Games—maker of the immensely popular Fortnite video game—to produce the visuals for the Hummer EV’s infotainment system. The high-resolution screen and complex graphics look wonderful, but we noted some obvious latency that signals the system doesn’t have nearly the processing power it needs to keep up with the software’s capabilities. A variety of connection amenities are included, including Apple CarPlay/Android Auto capabilities, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and GM’s OnStar telematics system.
Engine
At this time, the only powertrain that can be installed in the Hummer EV is one that consists of three electric motors and can produce one thousand horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard, and in our tests, the Hummer EV flew to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds owing to its Watts to Freedom launch control driving mode. The performance of its brakes, on the other hand, did not live up to our expectations, despite the fact that we were impressed by the vehicle’s acceleration. Slowing all the Hummer EV’s bulk down to a halt from 70 mph took an extra-long 211 feet and repeated runs resulted in obvious brake wear. Yikes. Maneuverability at low speeds is better than anticipated, a direct consequence of the rear-wheel-steering system, but once you’re up and going the Hummer EV is as cumbersome to maneuver as other elevated brodozers.
Speaking of towing and payload, GMC claims the Hummer EV can pull up to 7500 pounds. That’s less than the towing capacity of rival EV trucks such as the Rivian R1T and the Ford F-150 Lightning, which are rated for 11,000 pounds and 10,000 pounds respectively. During the portion of our test when we towed a double-axle camping trailer that weighed 6100 pounds, the range of our Hummer EV plummeted to barely 140 miles at 70 miles per hour.
The battery pack of the Hummer EV is rated as 205.0 kWh, and the vehicle has an estimated driving range of 329 miles on a single charge. In our testing, we observed 290 miles on an all-highway range test at 75 mph. The Hummer employs an 800-volt electrical design with a 350-kilowatt fast-charging capacity which GMC says will add 100 miles of range in only 10 minutes. For purchasers who don’t have any DC fast charging stations nearby, the Hummer EV may also charge on standard public charging terminals or at home using an included adaptor, however charging periods are much slower.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe EPA fuel economy estimates for the Hummer EV are 51 MPGe cities, 43 MPGe highways, and 47 MPGe combined. In contrast, the Rivian R1T is rated at 74 MPGe city, 66 MPGe highway, and 70 MPGe combined. 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup
Price
The Hummer electric pickup will not be available until the 2022 model year because of the urgency to have it manufactured this autumn. The truck will be released gradually since it is only going to be available in the Edition 1 trim, which costs 112,595 dollars and comes fully equipped with a tri-motor electric engine that is capable of producing an estimated 1,000 horsepower. The remodeled Detroit-Hamtramck factory, now known as Factory Zero by GM since it will solely produce electric vehicles (EVs), is where GM is putting the finishing touches on the pickup trucks.
The manufacture of the Edition 1 model and the more affordable $99,995 EV3X trim will begin in the autumn of 2022 when the truck will begin its brief ’23 model year. This will involve the manufacturing of the vehicle. GMC will expand its lineup to include the two-motor, $89,995 Hummer EV2X in the year 2023. When the basic model of the Hummer EV2, which will cost $79,995, finally makes its debut on the market in 2024, users will have access to all of the truck’s trim levels.
