The 2023 BMW X7 Powertrain, Performance, and Fuel Economy Ratings

The 2023 BMW X7 continues to come in standard all-wheel drive and 8-speed automatic transmission. The transmission, however, is said to shift more incisively.

The base trim X7 xDrive40i remains to be powered by a 3L turbocharged 6-cylinder, but now it is joined by a 48V power hybrid assist system. Together they generate up to 375 horsepower and 383 pound-feet outputs—40 horsepower and 52 pound-feet bumps compared to the 2022 model year. It is rated at 19/24 mpg city/highway fuel economy-wise.

Moving up the ladder, the M50i trim is transformed to M60i this year. It is still supported by a 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 engine that generates up the same 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet. However, it is now paired with a 48V mild hybrid system to improve its eco-friendliness and fuel efficiency, in which it earns 15/21 mpg city/highway ratings.

Meanwhile, the top-ranging Alpina XB7 trim is powered by an enhanced counterpart of the V8 powertrain found in the M60i trim. It produces up to 630 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The fuel economy ratings of this trim haven’t been out yet, but it’s expected to be similar to the M60i’s.

Exterior Redesigns, Interior Upgrades, and Added Tech Features

For the 2023 model year, the X7 receives a mid-generational refresh. This includes a bolder fascia design. The SUV already sports a more modern appearance compared to the conventional BMW design language it carried during its debut. However, it gets further departure as it is now boasting a fresh split-headlight design. Another revised area that gains improvement is the grille. Moreover, the automaker adds 14 additional exterior paint color options. The 2023 BMW X7 is also the first vehicle under BMW that offers 23” rims. A BMW M 50-year logo is offered as an option to celebrate the M division’s 50th anniversary.

Inside, the upcoming X7 also gains some updates compared to the last model year. The entry-level X7 xDrive40i trim offers standard features of dual curved screens–a 14.9” touchscreen infotainment display and a 12.3” digital instrumental display. Furthermore, it also provides a four-zone climate control function, remote-controlled features, and a wireless hotspot.

Heated front seats, a power tailgate, and a panoramic sunroof come as standard features in the upcoming X7. The front-row seats are equipped with power adjustability and memory functions to enhance the occupants’ comfort.  Some optional features are including customizable ambient lighting and upholstery alternatives. The storage of the BMW X7 is quite plenty.

The newly redesigned center console features a small gear selector. The design of the dashboard is also revamped with the previously mentioned displays. The infotainment screen is equipped with the latest iDrive software system. Both of the screens deliver high-definition graphics and user-friendly layouts.

Smartphone integration systems (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and double USB for the front seat row come as standard. The 2023 BMW X7 built-in navigation system is complemented with augmented reality (AR) features. A head-up display function is available as standard or optional depending on the selected trim level. The voice control system is added to allow the car’s occupant to command the system in more diverse ways. The iPhone-as-key system comes as optional as well, which lets the driver vacate the traditional keys. Audio setup is available in 10-, 16-, or 20-speaker systems according to the trim.
